General Election Hustings
From left to right we have Ollie Pearson (Labour). Mark Wooding (Liberal Democrats), Eunice Goodwin (Vice Chair Okehampton u3a), Gill Westcott (Green Party), Mel Stride, Secretary of State for Work and Pensions (Conservative and Unionist Party) and Jeffery Leeks (Reform UK).
Each Candidate submitted a CV in advance which Eunice, as Moderator, read out at the start. They then had 2 minutes to explain the principal position/policies of their party, or whatever subject is most important to them as individuals.
Questions were submitted in advance and selected to cover the Economy, the Environment, Personal Independence Payments, Brexit and Social Housing. The Questioner asked their question in person and were answered by each Candidate in turn. Eunice asked for follow-up or further explanation on any subject where appropriate. The Questioner was then asked for their response.
We filled the Church with 137 quite well-behaved attendees! Jeffery Leeks said it was the best organised and attended Husting in Central Devon. Well done Eunice.
